〈 CHARACTER INFO 〉
CHARACTER NAME: Walter Flynn White Jr (For clarity, in this app, he'l be referred to as either Junior or Flynn depending on the character's choice at the time, all other instances of 'Walter' are to be considered references to Heisenberg.)
CHARACTER AGE:18
SERIES: Breaking Bad
CHRONOLOGY: End of series.
CLASS: Hero
HOUSING: Heropa, maybe where his dad is supposed to live.
BACKGROUND: Wiki entry
Junior is the sheltered child of Walter and Skyler White. He has cerebral palsy and has paralysis on the right side of his face and needs crutches to walk.
As far as his father's second life was concerned, all Junior knew about it was that he had gotten cancer and Skyler suspected he was into marijuana. He was isolated from his father, unable to support him or understand his actions.
When Walter changed his mind about having treatment, Junior seized on the chance to help by setting up a page for donations. This, unfortunately, had the side effect of hurting his father's pride which was only resolved when Saul decided he could use the page to launder Heisenberg's drug money. Not that Junior knew as much.
With Walter's manipulation and his mother's unexplained behaviour after she found out about Heisenberg, Junior chose his father's side over his mother's, finding there to be no reason why she should want to break up with him so suddenly over alleged gambling addiction apparently prompted by his cancer diagnosis.
When things improve, Junior starts to feel that they're back on track, fooled again by his parents' deception. When he finds his father overemotional and vulnerable, he finds it a beacon of hope in their relationship, maybe a signal that his emotional distance was reducing.
But the hopeful time was not to last. His father continued to act irrationally and his mother attempted suicide in an attempt to get her children out of the house. He and his sister Holly went to live with his aunt and uncle.
Despite wanting to know what was going on, Walter managed to resolve the 'problem' and he and his sister returned to the home.
The uncertainty continued with the return of Walt's cancer and they had to quickly relocate to a hotel after their house had been doused.
It was only after this did Marie, his aunt, convince Skyler to tell him everything. He was shocked and disturbed to understand what was happening and blamed his mother as well as his father for enabling him.
He demanded that his father confess to him, but only managed to find out that Hank, his uncle had been killed. He came to outright blame his father for the murder, denouncing Walt Junior for good and refusing any of his father's ill-gotten gains.
PERSONALITY:
Junior is a good-hearted, but naive young man. He was able to be fooled so long because he wanted to think the best of his father despite not knowing him all that well. His instincts are to trust what his parents tell him and it was a great shock that they'd been both been lying to him, let alone about such an incredible thing.
He was very close to Hank, who is virtually incapable of such deceit and the fact that his father's responsible for his death cuts deep with Junior.
He was innocently thrilled to see Saul From The TV, openly smiling when he sees the beat up lawyer in the carwash.
He is a warm young man, forgiving his mother when she took his father back and continuing to live with her after his father's death. He is also pretty attached to Holly, his baby sister and treats her with kindness and gentleness.
Despite having been provoked a number of times, he seems to have none of his father's violent tendencies, only yelling when roused. He is a little eager to jump to the wrong conclusions, usually out of frustration of being put out of the loop and being given wrong or deceptive information.
He tends to crave his father's attention more than his mother's, blaming her for their separation rather than the clear self-isolating tendencies and erratic behaviour the man was showing, even if he had explanations for neither.
She was always the bad guy to him and he gave her little space to trust him enough to explain, even if he didn’t really have faith in her that she would.
POWER: Junior was born a normal human, albeit with cerebral palsy.
Power 1: Flight. Junior can lift off without much effort by will alone. He can fly without much effect from wind resistance but can get cold.
Power 2: Shield. Can be used to protect himself or others, but also to send a shockwave to knock other people over with in five metres.
Power 3: Truth Crutches. If he touches someone with one of his crutches, they have to tell him the truth.
〈 CHARACTER SAMPLES 〉
COMMUNITY POST (VOICE) SAMPLE:
[ Flynn is sitting down, looking at the camera. There's a beat or two before he decides to speak. When it does, it's clear there's some kind of paralysis at work. ] Hey, um. My name is Flynn and I'm… here, to I guess help. I dunno if I'm gonna be much of a hero, because this… isn't really a comic book and I, uh, [ he laughs at himself ] left my martial skills at home.
But I do want to help. Even if it's not the grand destiny of saving the world.
Are there really Red Scares here? Because, that's definitely… old comic stuff, but it's still the twenty first century, right?
[ He sighs with a kind of frustration that you get when this seems to be a long term problem. ] Anyone who can give me a full answer to what's going on would be. Just what I need, more than anything. [ Even going home, really. ]
LOGS POST (PROSE) SAMPLE:
Flynn flies only when he feels too tired to walk, so he's on his crutches as he moves through Heropa. He's fascinated, looking around at the flying cars, the general fifties chic. He has no idea what to make of it all, but he's taking it in good spirits.
He especially likes the idea that people are looking at him, not because he's on crutches (although their eyes do go there) but because he's a hero. A bone fide, government-sanctioned hero.
There's a mountain of opportunity here, he realises. If he can be some kind of role model, if he can be a real hero, then maybe other people with disabilities will see him and realise they'e able to do great things too.
He always wanted to be one of those people who inspire others. Here, he'll get that chance.
It's not like his parents will be able to stop him.
